Cine a întemeiat mânăstirea Cluny? Pe net nu este prea clar. Odată spune că Berno (Bernon), odată că William I, ducele de Aquitania. Şi când a fost întemeiată, în 910 sau 909?
Guillaume e echivalentul francez al lui William. Wikipedia în italiană îl numește Guglielmo. Așa cum, atunci când înveți istoria Franței, ți se spune de Henric, Ludovic, Carol, când în realitate regii ăștia purtau numele de Henri, Louis, Charles. Valabil și pentru cei englezi.
El a donat mai mult decât terenul:

În ciuda faptului că versiunea engleză a wikipediei se contrazice cu cele în italiană și franceză, pe site-ul lor se spune clar că a fost fondată în 910 de Guillaume le Pieux, ducele de Aquitania. Bernon a fost primul ei abate.

Nu prea mă stiu la franceză. 
Cum îl chema de fapt pe acest Guillaume? În engleză văd că îi zice William I. În română am văzut undeva că îl numeste Wilhelm. În legătură cu întemeierea, stiu că cel Pios a oferit terenul, ceea ce e mare lucru. Dar nu stiu dacă prin asta poate fi numit fondator. Problema ar fi de stiut pe cheltuiala cui s-a făcut mânăstirea, pe a lui Bernon sau pe a Pios-ului.

E cam clar că William este fondatorul. În unele locuri scrie totusi că Bernon. Poate că Bernon e si el un întemeietor, dar nu al mânăstirii, ci al unui ordin călugăresc.
M-am oprit asupra acestui subiect, pentru că Cluny a jucat un mare rol în istoria secolelor care au urmat, cum probabil stii.
Wikipedia în română spune că Bernon a construit biserica abațială de la Cluny (abbatiale-o biserică special construită pentru o abație, echivelentul bisericii mănăstirești), probabil de aici e confuzia...A început construcția ei, de fapt, în 910, de terminat a terminat-o urmașul lui în 927.
