Castelul Hunedoarei, also called Castelul Corvinilor, Corvineștilor or Huniazilor is the mediaeval citadel of Hunedoara, one of the most important monument created with the gothic architecture in Romania. It has been built in the fifteeth century by Ioan de Hunedoara, on the place of an old reinforcement, on a rock, where, on its bottom flows the Zlasti stream. It's an imposing construction, which has cannons, bastions and a dungeon.
The roof is high, covered with polychrome tiles.
The castle has been restored and transformed in a museum. It has been one of the biggest and famous properties of Ioan de Hunedoara. During Ioan de Hunedoara's rule, the castle has known many transformations.
Over the years, the owners of the castle modified its appearance, enriching it with towers, rooms and guest rooms.
The castle has a part, called Maria. In it, we can still elucidate a picture refering to the legend with the rook. It is belived that the name of @Corvini@ comes from this legend.
In the yard of the castle, near the chapel, is a deep fountain. Acording to the legends, this fountain has been made by three Turkish prisoners. The liberty was promissed to them if they can reach the water. After 15 years of hardworking, when they finished the fountain, the masters didn't keep their promise. On the fountain's wall, there is an inscription : @You have water, but you don't have a heart@
